A Renaissance Weekend

Another fun-filled weekend! On Saturday, we joined Bo/Sandra, Pat/Katie and Heath/Dee at the Renaissance Festival for some seriously wild people watching. Never have there been so many inappropriately dressed adults under one thatched roof, er, medieval playscape: It was like one giant Disneyland for crazed Robin Hood wannabes.

Most of our party enjoyed large Turkey Legs for lunch, I kept it cool with a corn dog.

Yes, those are men dressed like pirates behind Katie's shining face. I made her pose like I was taking her pic to capture them... I think Hunter loved his first trip to the Renaissance Festival -- we alternated from the stroller to being held by Mommy to Daddy's shoulders just so he could get the best view.

On Sunday we hit the Ferndale Art Fair, especially the DIY (Do It Yourself) section. So cool and some inspiring ideas for my next projects: Bags made out of construction netting, buttons created out of bits of State of Michigan map, tie-dyed baby clothes (loved them!) and the cutest line called PopArtMonkey. Watch out mama-to-be's... the most adorable bibs! I didn't get any pictures, but you can see some of their products here (www.popartmonkey.com).

And THEN, Michael and Katie -- from California fame -- stopped by for a visit. It's been almost a year since we saw them last and it was so exciting to see Baby Majerus too. He/She will be making the debut in February. Here's Michael getting some baby-holding practice in with Munchkin. Brad and I were putting in our plug for the 2 of them to consider moving back to Michigan, so consider this my electronic plea: We miss you guys!!! :)

Silly Serdas...

Loved this picture of Pat and Katie... thought it would make a good late-Wednesday laugh :)

How do you solve a problem like Maria?

Ask Brad... I haven't been able to get the song 'Maria' from The Sound of Music out of my head for about 4 weeks. And being that I'm home sick today with this month's round of the stomach flu (courtesy of Blue Bird Daycare), I thought I'd torture all of you with the rendition straight from the movie. Thanks YouTube!

Kickin' It... Like A Big Boy

So with our new, mobile Little Man, Brad and I realized HWB needed shoes! We went on a hunt this weekend for Hunter's First Pair of Shoes and found black and blue suede Vans. They are probably 2 sizes too big but are perfect for our little rocker and he manages just fine.

(And yes Aunt Katie, H is wearing his stylin' Brooklyn jacket in this pic!)

A Little Wisconsin Brew

Well here we are going on 4 days of Wisconsin tourism and I haven't seen much more than a few streets of Sheboygan, WI. All I know is, you can never be too excited than a having New Glarus brew on tap... here I am holding up a bottle of Fat Squirrel New Glarus style.
Can't wait to go home...

Olivu... Do You?

Stumbled across a true gem today: On a 3-hour break from the conferencing madness, my co-worker Mervit and I discovered Olivu, this amazing little boutique in downtown Sheboygan.

Olivu features make-it-yourself body products like lotions, face masks and sugar scrubs that you customzie as your own by adding fragrant oils, herbs, etc. to. Naturally I stocked up.

The store is adorable -- almost as though I had created it myself. Very clean feel; equipped with a mod-looking kitchen and countertops where all of the alchemy takes place. The owner wasn't in but the clerk was proud to inform us she was actually filming a segment for HGTV! What a bright concept: would definitely go over gangbusters in the RO... I may be in the wrong business...

Check them out!

I'm Lonely... So Lonely...

Yes, it's true. I'm lonely and miss Munchkin and my hubby... for the past 2 days, I've been holed up at one of my Client's properties, Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI. http://blueharborresort.com/ It is a gorgeous beachfront setting although we haven't had the opportunity to enjoy; tomorrow I hope to venture into the town a bit during our off time. The full 2-days thus far of conferences has been quite tasking on the psyche and I am very much missing my family. :p I will return home late Friday evening.

Bill and Cherry arrived in Royal Oak today to help Brad with HWB in my absence and boy are they going to have their hands full because... Hunter started walking on Saturday! YES! Thanks to the help of Pat and Katie, Hunter toddled a few steps to my open arms and then valiantly practiced around our kitchen for the next 2 days. In fact, he toddled the entire way across the kitchen floor on Sunday night much to Brad/my surprise!

Up until this point, HWB was taking 1-2 steps on his own but he has definitely started taking off!

So until I make it home, let me know if I can pick up any Sheboygan, WI-based souvenirs for you.

HWB's 1-Year Dr. Appt

Thought I'd take a quick moment from staring at spreadsheets and update you on Hunter's 1st year doctor's appointment yesterday:

Our Little Man is officially 32" tall (WOW!!!) and has lost a little weight since becoming so mobile -- he now weighs 26#, 5 oz. The nurse showed me on their growth chart that he has literally gone off the charts with his size!

Dr. Shah has given us the go-ahead to switch Hunter over to whole milk which will mean a drastic $25/week cut in our grocery budgets for the loss of formula cans (yey!). It will take a few weeks to officially transition him but overall am excited.

Even though he has shown no signs of it, found out yesterday that HWB has a middle ear infection so we started antibiotics yesterday. He actually seems to like the amoxicillan which is too funny.

Now 3 weeks out from Hunter's previous hospitalization, Dr. Shah is still not satisfied with the way his lungs sound. So we receieved a script for Pulmicort yesterday as well -- it's an inhalant that will help prevent asthma attacks. We will have to administer the Pumicort 1x every day from now - the end of October in order to help Hunter as we enter a typically bad respiratory season. You can read more about it here: http://www.drugs.com/pulmicort.html.

We are excited to have Bill and Cherry visit next week and help Brad with Munchkin while I am away on business to Sheboygan, WI. I'll be sure to send many photos from tropical Sheboygan while I'm there. :)
